Global Natural History Day 2017

GNHD is an international educational program from the United States, which is designed to inspire students’ interest in natural science and history outside the classroom and to connect students with their peers around the world.

What is GNHD?

GNHD is aninternational educational program from the United States, which is designed to inspire students’ interest in natural science and history outside the classroom and to connect students with their peers around the world.

This Year’s Theme:

Scales of Nature: From Micro to Macro 自然的比例

Objective:

  1. Promote STEM. Natural science, environmental awareness and responsibility and liberal studies education to students all over the world.
  2. Connect students around the world to exchange topics of natural history and science.
  3. Give opportunities to students to explore the environment and have different learning experience outside classroom.
  4. Develop students’ creative problem-solving abilities, and improve cross-cultural understanding.

For who?

All students from Primary 2 to Secondary 6 students.

What to do?

  1. School register online on www.ert.org.hk/gnhd2017 or www.gnhd.international
  2. Each team must consist of two students with one mentor ( teacher or senior students)
  3. Each team develops a topic relating to the annual theme
  4. Each team starts to conduct research and prepare a presentation to express their findings
  5. Before 05th May 2017, submit their detailed written material on-line to www.gnhd.international
  6. Hong Kong Finals will be held on 20th May 2017 (Saturday) at the Hong Kong Science Museum
  7. Selected teams can participate in the Global Finals 2017 in Chongqing (重慶), China ( tentatively from 19 to 25th July 2017).

Presentation Format:

Students can present their project by one of the following categories:

  1. Exhibit Display (NOT more than 1000 words; NO larger than 100cm wide, 75cm deep and 180cm high)
  2. Performance (NOT exceed 8 minutes excluding 3 minutes for preparation before performance and 3 minutes for removing props after performance)
    Language : English

Judging Criteria

1. Natural Scientific Quality;  

2. Relation to the Annual Theme;  

3. Clarity of Presentation;

4. Awareness and impact;

*Travel expenses to GNHD 5-day Global Finals are paid by participants
