Global Natural History Day 2015

GNHD is an international educational program from the United States, which is designed to inspire students’ interest in natural science and history outside the classroom and to connect students with their peers around the world.

What is GNHD?

GNHD is aninternational educational program from the United States, which is designed to inspire students’ interest in natural science and history outside the classroom and to connect students with their peers around the world.

This Year’s Theme:

Nature’s Great Event 大自然。大事件

Objective:

  1. Promote natural science, environmental awareness and responsibility and liberal studies education to students all over the world.
  2. Connect students around the world to exchange topics of natural history and science.
  3. Give opportunities to students to explore the environment and have different learning experience outside classroom.
    1. Develop students’ creative problem-solving abilities, and improve cross-cultural understanding.

For who?

All students from Primary 2 to Secondary 6 students.

What to do?

  1. School return the Reply Slip claiming number of students ( before 31st March 2015)
  2. Students form teams of two with one mentor ( teacher or senior students)
  3. Each team develop a topic relating the annual theme and submit an application form with their rough idea to fax 29760479,
  4. Participants start to conduct research and make a presentation to express their findings
  5. Before 24th April, submit their detailed written material on line to www.gnhd.org
  6. Participating Teams attend the presentation day in 2nd May 2015 at the Hong Kong Science Museum
  7. Selected teams participate in the 5-days trip Global Finals 2015 ( tentatively 16th to 21st July 2015)  in Jinan ( 濟南 ) with international students
  8. Winners would go to the GNHD Discovery Trip (optional)

Format:

Students can present their project by

  1. Exhibit Display (NOT more than 500 words; NO larger than 100cm wide, 75cm deep and 180cm high)
  2. Performance (NOT exceed 8 minutes excluding 3 minutes for preparation before performance and 3 minutes for removing props after performance)

Judging Criteria

1. Natural Scientific Quality;  

2. Relation to the Annual Theme;  

3. Clarity of Presentation;

4. Awareness and impact;

Registration open. Seminar on 29th March, at HKSM

2nd May 2015

Semi-final at Hong Kong Science Museum ( HKSM )

16th to 21st July 2015

Global Finals in Jinan ( 濟南 )

August 2015 ( TBC)

Kenneth E. Behring Discovery Trip,

Cost

No cost for registration and participation.

Travel expenses to GNHD 5-days Global Finals are paid by participants ( to be confirmed )

  2. ERT Two Round-Trip air ticket to Jinan/ student team

Second Prize

  1. Certificate
  2. ERT Monetary Prize HKD2000/ student team

Third Prize

  1. Certificate
  2. ERT Monetary Prize HKD1000 / student team

* More prize will be awarded for teams go to the Global Final in Jinan ( 濟南 ) by 16th-21st July 2015

 and all Global Finalists will get at least 3rd place with Certificate and Medal.
